Bourbon or rye whiskey : 60 ml
Sugar syrup (or 1 sugar cube + few drops water) : 5–10 ml
Angostura bitters : 2–3 dash es
Garnish :Orange twist and/or Luxardo cherry (optional)

Glassware :Old-fashioned rocks glass (large ice)
If using a sugar cube, muddle it with a few dashes of bitters and a splash of water in the mixing glass. If using sugar syrup, add 5–10 ml syrup and bitters.
Add 60 ml bourbon or rye to the mixing glass and fill with ice.
Stir gently for 25–30 seconds until chilled and slightly diluted.
Place a large ice cube in your rocks glass.
Strain the mixture over the ice.
Express an orange twist over the drink, rub on the rim if desired, and drop in; add a cherry if you like.
