In a highball or shaker, add 8–10 mint leaves and 15 ml simple syrup; gently muddle once or twice to release mint oils (avoid shredding).
Add 45 ml white rum and 30 ml fresh lime juice.
Fill with ice and either shake briefly or build in the glass.
Pour into a highball filled with fresh ice if shaken.
Top with soda water (≈60–90 ml) and give a gentle stir to combine.
Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge; serve refreshingly cold.
